What is VASER Liposuction?
VASERLipo™ is a revolutionary technique for removing unwanted areas of fat from the body. Unlike traditional liposuction, VASER liposuction specifically targets fat cells with much less damage to surrounding tissue and skin. This technique also reduces the appearance of cellulite and decreases irregularities in skin texture which tend to occur with traditional liposuction procedures.
VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. VASERLipo™ uses specialized ultrasonic frequency waves to break down fat cells before being removed with a cannula. It’s a gentler and more precise approach to treating persistent fat deposits. At Alinea Medical, we’re able to achieve exceptionally smooth and shapely results for our patients with a much faster recovery time. The treatment can be performed here in our NYC liposuction clinic or outpatient surgery center under local or general anesthesia.
What can I expect after VASERLipo™?
In most cases, VASER Liposuction surgery in New York City is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients can typically go home shortly after surgery, although the use of anesthesia requires that they do not drive home. Pain medication will be prescribed to alleviate any post-surgery discomfort. In most cases, dressings can be removed the day after surgery and showering is permitted as soon as the patient feels comfortable.

Areas that can be treated with VASERLipo™
The abdomen is comprised of the upper and lower tummy. Both areas can be treated by our VASER Liposuction procedure either individually or at the same time. To hide any scars, incision sites are typically located inside the belly button and near the bikini line. VASERLipo™ in combination with the J-Plasma Ranuvion provides additional skin-tightening; however, excessive amounts of loose skin may require a tummy tuck procedure.
Flanks / Love Handles Liposuction
Flanks are a common concern for both men and women. This is the area just above the hips that results in the dreaded overhang most people have come to associate with the “muffin top.” Incision sites are strategically placed inside the underwear zone. Removing excess fat in this area using the industry leading VASER liposuction procedure can create smoother curves and contours.
Inner & Outer Thighs Liposuction
Both inner and outer thighs can be successfully treated with liposuction to achieve more attractive, slender and proportionate legs. VASER Liposuction is very effective at treating the inner thighs to improve comfort and prevent chafing. The outer thigh area, also known as “saddle bags” can also be significantly slimmed down using VASER Liposuction for a significantly improved appearance.
Buttocks Liposuction & Banana Roll Liposuction
Liposuction in the buttock area can improve proportions and give more attractive curves to the body. Our liposuction procedure in NYC can also be done simultaneously with other treatments such as the Brazlian Butt Lift to give the butt a more sculpted and lifted appearance. The banana roll is the area of excess fat located between the buttocks and thighs. Liposuction can remove this fat to give the butt cheeks sharper definition and a natural appearance.
Excess fat on the arms can appear at any age but tends to happen as we age. It can often be accompanied by skin laxity and sagging. VASER Liposuction in combination with J-Plasma Ranuvion can help remove unwanted fat from the arms while tightening skin at the same time. The result is much slimmer arms that appear more firm and with improved muscle tone.
Women are particularly susceptible to developing fat on the back and above the bra line. It can be extremely difficult to target these areas with diet and exercise alone. VASER Liposuction allows for precise and significant removal of back fat for smoother curves and better fitting clothes. In men, back liposuction can create a more desirable “V” shape.
Female Breasts Liposuction
Female breast reduction and lifting using VASER Liposuction is a safer and less invasive alternative to surgical breast reduction. The breasts is another area that’s hard to reduce with diet and exercise. The advantage of breast reduction with liposuction is that it can provide relief for the pain and discomfort of having large breasts in both women and men with less downtime than traditional liposuction surgery.
Male Breast Liposuction (or Man Boobs)
Having excess fat in the chest area can be a source of anxiety for many men. It’s typically the result of overdeveloped fat and breast tissue occurring at the same time. In many cases “man boobs” have genetic causes which means this condition doesn’t always respond to diet and exercise. VASER Liposuction can remove fat while sculpting the chest area for a more muscular appearance.
Jaw Liposuction, Neck Liposuction & Chin Liposuction
Unwanted fat around the neck and jawline can happen for hereditary reasons or due to weight gain. With aging, excess fat can also be accompanied by skin laxity, the formation of jowls and sagging jawline. VASERLipo™ is a safe and highly effective procedure to quickly eliminate submental fat and sculpt the jawline for a more youthful and attractive lower face.

How VASERLipo™ is Performed
VASER non-invasive liposuction in NYC is performed by first applying a local anesthetic (numbing fluid) to the area of concern through a tiny incision. Next, the Vaser liposuction system applies acoustic or ultrasound energy (as opposed to radiofrequency or laser) to effectively melt and liquify only the targeted fat cells.
After the fat cells are emulsified and released by the ultrasound waves they are gently removed using suction through a small tube known as a cannula. The procedure time varies based on how many areas are being treated. It can take as little as an hour or several hours.
After the VASERLipo™ procedure patients are required to wear a special compression garment to help the skin contract without problems and adapt to their new body contours.
Everyone heals at different rates, and you are the best judge of when you are ready for certain activities. Patients often resume all normal activities within 2 to 3 weeks of surgery as the swelling and bruising subside.
Who is a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
VASER Liposuction Contraindications
Unhealthy individuals may be at a greater risk for developing serious complications. If you have any of the following conditions you may not be a good candidate for VASERLipo™:
Taking certain medications may increase your risk of bleeding. These include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Aspirin, or anticoagulants such as Coumadin (warfarin). In these situations, vaser liposuction is not a safe option.
Taking medications that impede the metabolism of lidocaine, the local anaesthetic used during the procedure, also increases risks unless the individual can discontinue using the medication at least two weeks prior to surgery.
VASERLipo™ is not a suitable treatment for obesity. Patient may be disappointed if they expect this treatment to remove a large amount of weight permanently.
Patients with large amounts of loose skin or those with poor skin elasticity are not suitable candidates for this surgery.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women cannot have the surgery.
What are the side-effects of liposuction?
Although rare, liposuction is surgery and therefore carries the following risks: bleeding, infection, reaction to anesthesia, bumpy or uneven results, poor skin elasticity and unusual healing.
VASERLipo™ Compared to Other Liposuction Procedures
What is Cavitation Liposuction – Destroys fat cells by using ultrasound. This procedure although non-surgical, requires multiple treatments and does not produce results instantaneously. VASERLipo™ treatment gives noticeable results with one treatment and in a much shorter time frame.
What is Water Liposuction?– Removes excess fat from the stomach, thighs, butt, hips, and arms. It’s sometimes combined with laser liposuction in a procedure called AquaLipo. Compared to VASERLipo™ which uses ultrasound energy to break up the fat. The key difference between Body-Jet and VASER is that the latter offers skin-tightening benefits, so it’s especially beneficial if loss of elasticity is a concern.
What Laser Liposuction? – Minimally-invasive procedure that uses heat from fiber-optic lasers at various wavelengths to melt body fat. This is a different process than liposuction, which involves removing fat from the body using vacuum suction. In contrast, VASERLipo™ also referred to as HD lipo. What is HD Liposuction? It sculpts the body to the perfect natural shape, removing fat from select areas and, if necessary, re-injecting the fat into other areas for the best possible contours.
What is Aqualipo® Liposuction? – New liposuction procedure that uses a water- based fat removal system. Aqualipo® claims to provide excellent results with less bruising, swelling and minimal patient downtime. Most plastic surgeons who have used both technologies agree that VASERLipo™ provides superior results for patients.
What is Tumescent Liposuction? – The most common liposuction technique used to permanently remove pockets of excess fat via suction. The surgeon starts the procedure with injections of wetting solution into the fatty layer of your skin before the fat is vacuumed out. The tumescent solution contains salt water, adrenaline and a local anesthetic. The adrenaline shrinks blood vessels to minimize blood loss and the water makes it easier to remove the fat through the cannula. The biggest advantage of VASERLipo™ is that it can be performed without general anesthetic, patient can return home the same day and it results in much less trauma to surrounding tissues.
What is SmartLipo? – Less invasive type of liposuction that uses laser energy to liquefy fat before the doctor suctions it out, resulting in less bruising and trauma to surrounding tissue. The precise nature of the laser makes it ideal for use on smaller, stubborn pockets of fat, like love handles, flabby upper arms, bra bulge, or double chin, though it can be used on all areas of the body.
Fat that has been removed via SmartLipo cannot be transferred to plump up other areas of the body, like the breasts or butt (a process known as “fat grafting” or “fat transfer”), as it can be with VASERLipo™ because laser destroys the fat cells in the process.
What is truSculpt 3D? – A nonsurgical body-sculpting treatment that uses radiofrequency to reduce fat and tighten skin, primarily on the abdomen and flanks (love handles). It can also be used to minimize fat on the arms, neck, thighs, and back (along the bra line).The process is similar to CoolSculpting, which uses cool temperatures instead of heat to destroy fat cells. Results are inconsistent, take months to become apparent and two to four treatments, spaced four weeks apart, are recommended.
What is Flank Liposuction? – is a routine, minimally invasive outpatient procedure that removes fat around the sides and back of the waistline. It’s considered an option for male liposuction NYC to create a V-shape from shoulders to waist that makes them appear slimmer and more fit. This procedure is limited to one area of the body, primarily the flanks.
Cold Laser Liposuction – Pain-free, non-invasive device used for reducing fat by shining the emitted light (laser) over the skin. Multiple sessions are required and results can take months to become visible.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that involves removing unwanted bulges of fat to achieve smoother and slimmer contours. VASERLipo™ is an advanced technique that uses ultrasound energy to liquefy the fat first to allow for easier removal and therefore results in less trauma to surrounding tissues.
With surgical liposuction a small incision is made in the skin and thin tube called a cannula is inserted into the body. The cannula applies a suction which removes stubborn and unwanted pockets of fat from the body. Some liposuction techniques incorporate other technologies such as tumescent solution, radiofrequency or ultrasound to make the fat easier to remove.
This will depend on the number and size of areas to be treated. Generally the VASERLipo™ procedure lasts between one and two hours.
Patients will see immediate results with VASERLipo™ and continuous improvement as time goes on and the body heals. Usually, patients see the final results 3-4 months after the procedure.
These results last for several years as the fat cells in the treatment area are permanently removed. A healthy lifestyle, regular exercise program, and maintaining an appropriate weight can help keep your body in the best shape possible.
Most patients receive satisfactory results with one treatment; however, in some cases additional sessions may be required.
There is no specific limitation on how often a person can get liposuction done. In general, patients need to be in good health, have recovered well from any previous procedures before undergoing any liposuction touch ups or treating other areas.
As with any major surgery, liposuction carries the following risks: bleeding, infection, reaction to anesthesia, bumpy or uneven results, poor skin elasticity and unusual healing.
Everyone heals at a different rate. Patients can often resume all normal activities within two to three weeks after surgery as the swelling and bruising subside. Walking every day promotes faster healing. Patients can drive once they are comfortable and return to work within a week. After about 6 weeks patients can return to their exercise routines.
Shower or BathDay After Surgery
|Activity||Typical Recovery Time|
|Back to Work||2 to 3 Days After Surgery|
|Driving||As Soon as You Feel Comfortable|
|Normal Activities||As Soon as You Feel Comfortable|
|Fading of Scars||Several Months to 1 Year|
|Final Contour||3 to 6 Months|
We normally advise removing no more than about 3.5-4 litres.
For your health and safety we don’t typically remove more than 4-5% of your body weight during one session.
Inch loss is not a potential target for VASERLipo™. You may or may not lose any inches or dress size. What is obvious with this surgery is that you will lose the excess fat and gain a more contoured body.
Wearing a compression garment after treatments can help to minimize swelling. Other treatments include lymphatic massage and rest.
It normally takes two to three weeks the swelling will subside
The pain will be the most intense two to four days after the procedure then gradually lessens. Tenderness and soreness are typical but will eventually fade.
Most scars will require several months to heal and should be shielded from the sun for at least a year.
Patients can resume their exercise program within six weeks after treatment.
Fluid retention after VASERLipo™ is not common; however, if it occurs lymphatic massage and wearing compression undergarments can help.
Over time the lumps following liposuction with lessen and smooth over. Lymphatic and regular massage can assist in the process.
Compression garments can be purchased online or in specialty retail stores. You’ll be advised of places to purchase these items at the time of booking.
Patients are normally required to wear a compression garment for three weeks.
VASERLipo™ provides mild skin-tightening benefits. For additional skin-tightening patients can try different modalities, including j-plasma ranuvion, radiofrequency (Profound).
In order to maintain good results after your VASERLipo™ treatment, you should incorporate more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein into your diet, while reducing the intake of sugars, simple carbohydrates, and saturated fats
Liposuction is currently being performed by doctors of every specialty: dermatologists, ER doctors, head and neck doctors, general surgeons, gynecologists, etc. The question you must ask is, are they really properly trained to do this procedure safely.
Liposuction involves removing areas of unwanted fat through suction. A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure whereby excess loose skin is removed or cut away to smooth the abdominal area. During a tummy tuck it’s typical for doctors to perform liposuction as well for optimum results.
Since liposuction is the less invasive and complicated surgery it also tends to be less expensive than a tummy tuck.
Depends on the severity of the complications.
First we numb the under-chin area with local anesthetic. Then we will make a tiny incision just under the chin. This incision point is ordinarily very small and becomes practically imperceptible once it has healed. The thin VASER probe is inserted under the skin into the fat layer to be sculpted away. The device is switched on and ultrasound pulses break up the fat under the chin. The fat is suctioned out and sutures are made at the incision site. Sometimes it is covered with a steri-strip to allow for drainage.
VASERLipo™ has major advantages over traditional facial liposuction as the ultrasound energy only targets the fat layer. Other structures such as blood vessels are not damaged by the ultrasound energy, so there is far less bruising and swelling. You will have some swelling and possibly some bruising, but this is ordinarily minor. Any of these side effects will ordinarily subside within a few days.
Similar to the body, patients will be advised to wear a compression garment for some time after the procedure. This will help to minimize swelling, aid the healing process and encourage skin tightening.
